Has anything changed in your approach to filmmaking since Garbage!?
My films are made over the course of years, and often they are put together in a way that’s not chronological. Which is interesting when you think about some things that were first shot from a limited perspective compared to scenes gathered towards the end of the filmmaking process. But even when the picture is locked and the editing is complete, and I’ve viewed the film probably over 300 times, I often have pangs of regret that I could have, or should have changed, added or subtracted things from the film. On a myopic level, the journey through the process of making one film relates to the feeling I get looking at the entire body of my work. It’s ever evolving, and the knowledge is ever expanding, and the approach is always internally criticized, picked apart, and re-examined. It’s hard to say how things have changed since my first film Garbage!, but I do know I am not the same person and my perspective is ever changing.
